Ammonia Engines Ready for Market – But Is the World Ready for Ammonia?

The maritime industry is entering a decisive phase in its efforts to achieve net-zero emissions, and ammonia has emerged as one of the most promising alternative fuels. At Marintec China 2025, the CIMAC Circle will host a dedicated session exploring whether the world is truly ready for ammonia-powered shipping. 

The discussion will focus on the readiness of ammonia engines, the challenges of infrastructure and supply chains, and the uncertainties surrounding regulation and market adoption. 

Keynote: Professor Lei Zhu

A keynote address by Professor Lei Zhu of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will set the stage with an overview of ammonia’s role in maritime decarbonization, covering deployment timelines, engine innovation, retrofit potential, safety and training requirements, and the latest regulatory developments from the IMO.
