CIMAC Working Group 20 Hybrid Systems has just published a new paper: “Defining Hybrid Systems for the Maritime Industry”. This paper introduces a unified definition of hybrid systems, eliminating confusion caused by multiple interpretations across the maritime industry.

Hinrich Mohr, Chair of CIMAC WG20, is proud to release this important work. He comments: “We bring clarity. This paper defines hybrid systems and sets clear criteria for propulsion and power generation.”

Serafeim Katsikas, Secretary of CIMAC WG20, adds: "Our framework strengthens independence and safety - key values for the maritime sector - and gives all stakeholders confidence for the future.”

“This guideline helps turn hybrid from a buzzword into engineering practice - not by prescribing solutions, but by establishing shared terminology and clear boundaries that create a level playing field for discussions between ship owners, yards, and system integrators.” says Markus Wenig, member of WG 20 and one of the driving forces behind the paper.
