CIMAC is pleased to announce two new publications from the CIMAC Working Group 8 'Marine Lubircants' and CIMAC Working Group 21 'Propulsion'.

The CIMAC WG8 Guideline on the 'Lubrication of Reciprocating Gas Engines' brings together insights into and current practices for the lubrication of gas burning engines. Combustion processes in gas engines are different from those in internal combustion engines burning liquid fuels, and therefore, their lubrication requires solutions that are different from those typically used in Diesel and spark ignited combustion engines for liquid petroleum fuels.

The CIMAC WG21 Guideline on the 'Hydraulics and Lubrication Rules of Steerable Thrusters' addresses a collection of questionable or unclear rules from classification societies, that are prescriptive in nature, for hydraulic systems for steering and propulsion units. Each selected rule is considered as written and the aim is to explain the issues with the current rules and come up with a guidance proposing how the rule should be considered for ensuring the safety of the component and/or system design.
