A new CIMAC Working Group dedicated to drive systems has officially commenced its activities, bringing together experts from across the global value chain to address future challenges and opportunities in drive technology.
The inaugural meeting of CIMAC Working Group 23 (WG23) Drives brought together a diverse group of participants from North America, Europe, and Asia. Representatives from drive manufacturers, system integrators, and end users joined the discussions, reflecting the broad industry expertise needed to address the evolving requirements of modern drive systems.
A key focus of the kick-off meeting was the definition of the Working Group's scope and the identification of initial work items. While further discussions will be required to finalize priorities, participants expressed a strong interest in concentrating on applications related to maritime propulsion, steering systems, and power generation. These areas are expected to form the foundation of the group's future technical activities and publications.
The meeting also established the Working Group's leadership team. The members elected Martin Hoffmann (ABB) as Chair and Tobias Huuva (Berg Propulsion) as Secretary.
WG23 aims to provide a collaborative platform for industry experts to exchange knowledge, identify emerging trends, and develop guidance on drive technologies relevant to the maritime and power generation sectors. By bringing together stakeholders from different regions and market segments, the group will support the development of practical recommendations that reflect global industry needs.
The next online meeting is scheduled for mid-October, when members will continue refining the scope and work programme. This will be followed by the second in-person gathering during the CIMAC Working Group Meeting Week at the end of November.
