Why is CIMAC and your Working Group important to the industry?

MT: To get a breakthrough in the new technology we need harmonized standards to electrify the marine industry, be greener and ensure safety. CIMAC Working Group 20 is the perfect place to bring the industry together for this. 

What are the major goals of your Working Group?

MT: We want to ensure efficient integration of sub-systems into propulsion systems, e. g. a marine hybrid drive.

Therefore we want to give recommendations for standardizing subsystem functional specifications and their interfaces from mechanical, electrical, logical (control and monitoring) and thermal perspective.

What have you already achieved & what are the next steps?

MW: We are currently acquiring new members from the electrical and energy storage industry. We are working on a guideline for virtual system integration (i.e. modelling fidelity, model interfaces, hybrid terminology) and we are drafting a position paper for the purpose of system monitoring.

Why is CIMAC and your Working Group important to the industry?

MW: As a CIMAC Working Group, we want to ensure that the specifications and interface descriptions we provide will be accepted by e. g. Classification Societies, industry stakeholders (suppliers, customers, …) and to be used in the future.
