Why is CIMAC and your Working Group important to the industry?
Marine fuels are changing due to the legislations. The sulphur content has been reduced significantly over the past decade which has led to a change in the fuel composition. CIMAC WG7 works closely with ISO 8217 and the interaction between these groups allows CIMAC to can move fast and efficient in providing up-to-date information to the industry.
The diverse group of industry experts (fuel suppliers, engine designers, equipment OEMs, fuel testing labs, ship operators, classification societies etc) enables CIMAC to assist the industry with guidelines and recommendation of all fuel related topics such as how to operate the fuel treatment system, how to evaluate fuel test results and fuel combustion.
What are the major goals of your Working Group?
To provide guidance to the industry about the latest developments in the marine fuel industry as well as recommendations on how fuel impact fuel systems and marine engines.
What have you already achieved & what are the next steps?
WG7 has existed in the industry for decades and has produced a significant amount of guidelines and recommendations to the industry. Not least over the past couple of years where the legislative environment has led to a change in the marine fuels. During the same period, CIMAC WG7 was represented in the IMO Joint Industry Guidance work on the Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oils.
