CIMAC and its Japanese National Member Association (JICEF, Japan Internal Combustion Engine Federation) are pleased to report of a successful CIMAC CASCADES event held recently in Kobe, Japan on 11-12 October 2018. The CASCADES event was attended by 122 participants, comprising mostly of young engineers, and providing them with an opportunity to meet some of the leading industry experts to discuss and exchange ideas and information regarding research and development work in relevant fields.

The theme of the CASCADES was “Diverging Technologies Aiming for Zero Environmental Impact“, with ten short presentations scheduled in the program. Since this CASCADES was held just after the time when the GHG reduction strategy was adopted at IMO MEPC 72 held this year, the theme “Diverging Technologies Aiming for Zero Environmental Impact” was timely. Meaningful presentations, fruitful questions and answers, information exchanges on a high detail were some of the features of the technical sessions. As for this theme, it was felt that more discussion and dialogue on the topic was essential for successful progress in this direction in the future.

The social events namely the technical tour of Yanmar Amagasaki factory and the welcome reception and dinner on “Luminous Kobe-2” Kobe Bay Cruise was also very well attended, with young engineers and students experiencing the factory first hand and enjoying the night view of Kobe, with an opportunity to discuss and network in a relaxed ambience.

The CIMAC CASCADES AWARD was won by Heikki Korpi of Wärtsilä, Finland for the presentation titled 'Emission Reduction Technologies - Towards Zero Emissions'. All the presentations are available for download on the right hand side.

CIMAC CASCADES Japan was organized in cooperation with YANMAR.
